“Kickstart your year of creativity!”

There’s a huge difference between having fun and working nonsense. Being creative means applying what you’ve learned in life as your source of inspiration, and coming up with concepts bigger than life. Graphika Manila on the other hand acts as a firestarter to budding flames and frozen minds that need to be thawed. Welcome to the creative world!

This year’s speakers gave emphasis not only to their outstanding portfolio but pointers and realisations in their chosen fields as well.

That long line after lunch break.. enough to burn a hefty serving of pancakes and bacon I had for lunch.

A bunch of hungry mobs about to invade the fast foods nearby.

LUNCH BREAK TIPS in attending a conference at PICC:

  • No bringing of food inside, but you can leave food in your car. It’s wiser to pack lunch that won’t spoil fast.
  • Sandwich, soda in cans (Coleman it), canned tuna, or fried chicken. *winkwink*
  • If you are commuting, bring lunch inside the venue at your own risk. (Mister, I’m hypoglycemic. So what can you do?) Walk a few blocks to the boardwalk. There are so much places to choose from. You get an 80/20 chances of a worry-free dining. It’s going to be: Fall in line for 20 minutes. Wait for your orders for another 20. Devour fast. Walk back to the venue. You are late for the pm session. Great.
  • Have lunch at the the cafe the venue or organizers have provided.
  • Bring mints. Hydrate. Enjoy. 🙂

Armand Serrano, Senior Visual Developer of Sony Pictures Animation discusses visual development
  • Identify your NEEDS and WANTS when designing (Example: Creating a hotel lobby for Hotel Transylvania that is distinctly grand yet Dracula-ish is a NEED. Adding a suspended jar pouring water as a lobby fountain, and a man-less armour as hotel guards are WANTS.)
  • A Silhouette or Shape has to convey what object it portrays (A lighthouse should look like a lighthouse in 1 second glance)
  • After identifying your needs, add what you want to make the design and concept more interesting.
  • Small things would add a lot of interest
  • “To make something fresh…use ordinary things, add zest”
  • Always do your designs in value before coloring
